Jane Hamilton came to the USA at the age of 17 from Castle Finn County Donegal, Ireland. She arrived in the US in 1862. Her father died and left her an inheritance, she sewed it in her petticoat and sailded to the US. She came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and met Thomas Mitchell there. They married in 1860 and moved to Lexington, Nebraska where most of the family lives now.
The 1880 Census for Precinct 2, Dawson County, Nebraska listed her name as Jennie which apparently was her nickname.
The 1910 Census for Lexington, Dawson County, Nebraska showed that she was a widow living with her granddaughter, Jennie F. Mitchell. It said she was the mother of four children all four were living at that time.
The 1920 Census for Lexington, Dawson County, Nebraska showed that she was living with her grandchildren, Jennie F. Mitchell, 21, Hugh T. Mitchell, 13, b. NE, Lawrence V., 11, b. NE, Phillip N., 9, b. NE. Jane was listed as being a widow.
The 1930 Census for Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County, California showed that she was living with her daughter, Mary M. Stewart who were both widows.
